Techno's finest gather for Time Warp

If you’re willing to drop a few grand in the name of techno, mark a trip to Time Warp in your diary for 2012. The mega-rave celebrated its 17th edition at Mannheim in Southern Germany last Saturday 2 April, staging five floors of the latest and greatest in house and techno. The 2011 edition was one of the most comprehensive yet.

The big four at the top of the bill were Sven Vath, Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Cox and Richie Hawtin (who was tasked with taking Time Warp into Sunday afternoon with an epic six-hour set). Elsewhere across the night you could catch Laurent Garnier greeting the morning on Floor 5, Luciano dropping loopy, Latin-infused house while Carl Craig added ‘sprinkles’, woozy Minus techno from Magda and Gaiser, the mind-melt that is Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems and just about any other four-four variant you could desire.
