America’s first touring dance festival

Image for America’s first touring dance festival

While us here in Australia are no strangers to the sight of a touring dance music festival (how else do you get 20+ internationals to the arse end of the world for two weeks?) such an event is evidently quite exotic overseas with US dance fans today in a breathless tizzy as a brand new festival will be bringing a heap of dance stars to the land of the free.

As reported by Pitchfork the upstart Identity festival tour will hit up over 20 US cities in August (the peak of their summer) for what some people are already calling the EDM equivalent of the Vans Warped Tour.

As for the lineup, Identity has most bases covered for their cherry popping first run with some veterans of the scenes like DJ Shadow, The Crystal Method, Kaskade and Pete Tong sharing space with big guns like Aeroplane, Booka Shade, Steve Aoki and Avicii. Also on board are a stack of hot-at-the-minute artists like Skrillex, Rusko and Pretty Lights which is a good indication of brostep’s pulling power in the US today.

The dates run from August 12th to September 10th and if you’re in the US around then you could certainly do worse than following the festival around for a bit. Like seeing Mary Poppins on Broadway, that show sucked.

Identity 2011 lineup:

Not really true on being the first in America. In '93 you had the "Rave New World" festival with 808 State, Cybersonik (with Richie Hawtin), Moby, and The Prodigy and a few years later with Moonshine Overamerica from '98-2000 with Cirrus, Omar Santana, DJ Micro, Carl Cox, and a few others. The closest this would come to would be Lollapalooza circa 97 when The Prodigy, The Orb, and Orbital, along other rock acts were touring at that time.
