Watch: Epic documentary on Richie Hawtin’s life and career

Image for Watch: Epic documentary on Richie Hawtin’s life and career

Of all the electronic music figures deserving of an illustrious documentary feature about their career and life at large, techno visionary Richie Hawtin would have to rank in the upper echelons. Not only has ITM Honour Roller Hawtin influenced dance music in profound ways with his prolific output but his status as a true shape-shifter of the scene demands deeper digging into his formative years and what influenced him in the past.

Thankfully somebody has done just that and produced a doco on the life and times of Richie Hawtin, from his years growing up as a bonafide computer geek to his rise in the EDM scene.

The feature is a part of the Slices Special Issue series aiming to profile true pioneers of the dance music scene and the exploration of Hawtin’s history also features input from peers and friends such as Sven Vath, John Acquaviva and Derrick May who describes meeting Hawtin for the first time;

“This kid walks up to me…he was a skinny little white boy and he’s really jumpy, kind of hyper, and he walks up to me and he says ‘wow! I always wanted to meet you!’. It was real cool.”

Check out the hour long documentary below and for a look into the early lives of some of dance music’s elite check out ITM’s When They Were Young galleries below for some particularly hilarious photo relics.
