ITM50 evolves into inthemix awards

With inthemix’s annual awards hitting its ninth incarnation in 2011, the ITM HQ brains trust decided it was about time to give things a bit of a shake-up and apply a fresh coat of shiny paint. As such we can now reveal that the inthemix50 has now transformed into the inthemix awards and the madness is once again about to kick off!

Though our awards ceremony does indeed have a new title and some necessary new categories it’s DNA remains unchanged as we’re still profiling and celebrating the biggest and brightest achievements in Australian dance music, centred on the main event of the top 50 DJs in the country as voted by you. After a changing of the guard last year which saw Canberra heroes The Aston Shuffle snake the title from then reigning champ tyDi, the 2011 DJ poll will be more contested and dissected than ever.

As well as the ITM50 within the greater awards celebration itself, the inthemix awards will be taking your votes on favourite club, favourite festival, favourite track and for the newly launched categories of the top live Australian act and favourite festival moment among others.

Of course talking about what you’ll be voting doesn’t mean much when you don’t know when you can vote and so we’re pleased to confirm that voting in the 2011 inthemix awards will open on Monday, July 18th and close on Sunday August 14th. After that there’s the awards ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday August 24th. Mark those dates down!

You’ll also been amped to hear that the inthemix awards will also be invading clubs during the voting calendar with a national club tour hitting 12 stops from July 22nd to August 13th. We’ll be spilling all the beans on that tour and who’s on it this Wednesday June 22nd. Until then, get into a club and start on a shortlist of your personal #1s.

inthemix awards key dates:

Monday July 18: Voting Opens
Sunday August 14: Voting Closes
Wednesday August 24: inthemix awards announced

@pomrocks - there sure will be. There'll be a few industry nominated categories and one industry voted award. Details will be released soon!

pomrocks said on the 21st Jun, 2011

Awesome, that's good to hear. The ITM50 is generally "popularity" based, so nice to have both.

Industry awards sound great.

Sad to see the identity change for this, I thought the previous branding was quite a strong and distinctive one.

Hopefully curb the cheating that goes on.

I would love to see an award that requires judging by a technical panel, and assesses a DJ's required skills within their genre, such as track selection and set composition, layering, looping, juggling etc etc... Facebook spamming and having a great promo team behind you who spend money on your behalf are kinda hard to compete against in a popularity contest.

moving forward, how the fuck did it go from kid kinobi and end up at tydi?

I blame mc shuresock
