NME’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Music-Videos of All-Time’ sucks

British alt weekly NME has something of a penchant for making essentially meaningless lists which they’ll only mostly disown and revise six months later so paying attention to them is a rather self-destructive endeavour. But that said the mag’s latest list on what they rank as the 100 Greatest Music-Videos of All-Time caught our eyes this week.

As reported by our mates at FasterLouder, the NME’s latest list comes with the launch of NME Video, a new site “dedicated to the best music videos” which we could certainly use now that Video Hits has kicked the bucket and MTV plays more Jersey Shore than music content.

According to the UK rag the best video of like all of forever and stuff is Johnny Cash’s tear-jearking Nine Inch Nails cover, Hurt coming in above lots of Radiohead. And while NME’s list is not without it’s high points like entries from UNKLE, The Prodigy and Daft Punk’s often overlooked Da Funk there are more than a few glaring omissions to grumble over like Aphex Twin’s Windowlicker, Justice’s Stress – clearly superior to Born Free by M.I.A. – and whatever your favourite video from The Chemical Brothers might be. And just where is Michael Jackson’s Thriller? Bah! We’ll take our own Smuttiest Dance Videos Of All Time list, thanks very much!
