Big Day Out 2012 rumours: Underworld, Chase & Status and more for the Boiler Room?
Tue 13th Sep, 2011 Newsin
As history tells us, the annual artist lineup for the summer Big Day Out festival usually lands online at the end of September and as such the countdown to the big reveal this month has (and no doubt will continue to) be flooded with a whole a mess of rumours contending that everyone from Prince to Pearl Jam and The Killers will be playing.
But what do all these salacious rumours hint to for Boiler Room-bound Big Day Out fans? Well, quite a bit as it turns out, as the tweets from apparent industry insider Big Day Out Spy (think that Miss Info character but geared specifically to BDO lineup leaks) suggest next year’s Boiler Room contingent is set to be led by none other than UK electronic icons Underworld.
Dishing the dirt on the rumour yesterday afternoon, BDO Spy tweeted that Underworld would be joined by other Boiler Room locks Chase & Status and Odd Future as well as The Presets and Cut Copy on unannounced stages at the festival.
It’s a little tough to figure out whether the shadowy figure behind these Big Day Out rumours is legit or not, especially since they just announced perennial tour hold-outs Radiohead as the festival’s 2012 headliners, but of the Boiler Room names leaked this week both Odd Future and The Presets correspond to the early rumours that inthemix reported on with good authority the other month. Hrmmmm…An Underworld visit would make sense 18 months into the dwindling lifespan of the group’s Barking LP, so maybe there is something here. Truth or not we’ll have to wait and find out how the lineup shapes up in a couple of weeks.
