The Big Day Out 2012 line-up drip-feed…

Image for The Big Day Out 2012 line-up drip-feed…

Instead of arriving in one triumphant installment, this summer’s Big Day Out line-up is coming bit by bit. The festival is set to announce a host of acts tonight Thursday 29 September between 8pm and 10pm, and we’ll be updating this story every half hour. Then the rest of the line-up lands tomorrow morning.

Let us all grumble together about the good old days when line-up announcements were simple and festival drinks were full strength. We’ve got high hopes for the 2012 Big Day Out line-up, with plenty of Boiler Room rumours doing the rounds, so let’s see what tonight brings.

The Big Day Out line-up drip feed begins here…bear with us and refresh, baby, refresh. It all starts with:

Kanye West
Soundgarden
Kasabian
Best Coast
Foster The People
Cage The Elephant
The Getaway Plan
Girl Talk
Frenzal Rhomb
Odd Future
The Jezabels
Battles
Architecture In Helsinki
Mariachi El Bronx
Parkway Drive
Boy and Bear
Hilltop Hoods
Röyksopp
The Living End
My Chemical Romance

^^ The most monotonous boring music to come out of the the whole surf rock / pop scene. Youtube a couple of their songs and you'll understand.

Update - The Chemical Bros

m_xt

m_xt said on the 29th Sep, 2011

wow, just looked up best coast, I thought maybe it was a misspelling for the east coast lineup. Sounds terrible. Like Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti and Au revoir simone had a baby, and dropped it on it's head, then kicked it a bunch until they were sure it was retarded.
PS chemical bros, I realise some people may not have seen them but they sure are here a lot.

Ryksopp!! I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the line-up thus far...maybe because I enjoy Best Coast's brand of whiny girl surf pop.

Jose Mourinho said on the 30th Sep, 2011

Really average annoucement apart from soundgarden, royksopp, battles and kasabian. Frenzal would be funny i guess. Parkway drive have their moments but Kanye??? thats a massive fail. The rest of the lineup will be a bunch of aussie filler ie. cut copy, art v science, presets blah blah blah

Timmac

Timmac said on the 30th Sep, 2011

Weak lineup....too many Australian fillers....too few international killers....not surprising though; festivals (including BDO) reached their peak - both attendance and lineup-wise - a few years ago....bring it back to the club people...

LOKIAU

goddamn. why couldn't royksopp be on a good festival lineup??

dn-ul

dn-ul said on the 30th Sep, 2011

by memory they still have two announcements, but the first one always had a few decent headliners. i wish there were more festivals like vivid were they get a few artist doing a couple of shows separately, would happily pay 50 per show then 160 for a 40 min set

mlirosi

mlirosi said on the 30th Sep, 2011

@timmac, couldnt be more wrong especially for BDO attendance has climed for the whole 20 years with the exception of 2001 and 2002 (because 2000 had a freakishly good lineup that to this day has not been beaten)
