Avicii is giving away 1 million dollars

Stereosonic favourite Avicii may be riding the enormous success of his hit track Levels all the way to bank, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to be a greedy knob about it. Rather, the producer has announced that he plans to donate a fat US $1 million to charity.
The baby-faced Swede, along with his manager Ash Pournouri, will be funding the big seven digit donation with proceeds from his current, 26-stop American tour. Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) chose Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organisation in the US, as the beneficiary of the donation – and aptly titled his series of shows the ‘House for Hunger’ tour.
“Hunger hits everywhere and the U.S. is not immune to it”, the producer told azcentral. “For me personally, when I found out how widespread the hunger problem in the United States actually was, it blew my mind. I never would have imagined that 1 in 6 people in America struggle with hunger or that 1 in 4 children routinely do not get enough to eat.” Well, that certainly makes a change from all those reports of skyrocketing American obesity levels.
But it seems there’s a second motive behind the donation – changing what Americans think of all those hedonistic EDM fans.
“I felt it was time to turn a corner and tear down the negative stereotypes of drugs and reckless partying often associated with the house/trance/dance music scene, as it’s a far cry from what the reality of electronic music is today” Bergling’s manager stated. “So Avicii and I are putting our money where our mouth is and taking the first step to give back to the country and the fans that have helped shape our careers.”
Drugs and reckless partying? Never! Still, Avicii has definitely earned some nice-guy credentials with this move.
