Avicii is giving away 1 million dollars

Stereosonic favourite Avicii may be riding the enormous success of his hit track Levels all the way to bank, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to be a greedy knob about it. Rather, the producer has announced that he plans to donate a fat US $1 million to charity.

The baby-faced Swede, along with his manager Ash Pournouri, will be funding the big seven digit donation with proceeds from his current, 26-stop American tour. Avicii (real name Tim Bergling) chose Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organisation in the US, as the beneficiary of the donation – and aptly titled his series of shows the ‘House for Hunger’ tour.

“Hunger hits everywhere and the U.S. is not immune to it”, the producer told azcentral. “For me personally, when I found out how widespread the hunger problem in the United States actually was, it blew my mind. I never would have imagined that 1 in 6 people in America struggle with hunger or that 1 in 4 children routinely do not get enough to eat.” Well, that certainly makes a change from all those reports of skyrocketing American obesity levels.

But it seems there’s a second motive behind the donation – changing what Americans think of all those hedonistic EDM fans.

“I felt it was time to turn a corner and tear down the negative stereotypes of drugs and reckless partying often associated with the house/trance/dance music scene, as it’s a far cry from what the reality of electronic music is today” Bergling’s manager stated. “So Avicii and I are putting our money where our mouth is and taking the first step to give back to the country and the fans that have helped shape our careers.”

Drugs and reckless partying? Never! Still, Avicii has definitely earned some nice-guy credentials with this move.

Ummm... Not to say what hes doing is bad but surely theres a better place to put the money than the US? Africa comes to mind? Imagine someone spending $1 mill in famine affected countries. That would make some serious difference.

that's awesome. Only EDM guy I've heard of who has donated anything.

Hope he doesn't become the Bono of EDM, and charities are notoriously useless, but the thought is nice at least!

Surely he could feed them all with the amount of cheese that came with "House for Hunger"

cizza, why does everyone always cry out 'feed africa'. africa gets a shit tonne of support from nations all around the world. an individual should choose the charity they want, and i doubt many people are donating large sums of money to the us of a, a nation that will rebound and prosper again. will africa prosper? no, it will always be famine stricken. his money won't do shit to africa.

"Only EDM guy I've heard of who has donated anything"

Seth Troxler does heaps of charity stuff and his music isn't half as shit.

The reports of American Obesity also are accurate as most Americans can't afford a decent diet and it's made very difficult to access good nutrition amidst the stranglehold of fast food corperations. Being poor doesn't necessarily mean you can't be very unhealthy.

From the sounds of it, this charity will do fuck all but bolster the public image of Ascii or whatever he's called

Maybe Americans need to incorporate socialism into their food to stop the fat kids from stealing everyone else's food

Yes, great idea, he can donate it to whatever cause he likes. Send it to africa for a dictator to pocket, just like most aid? Don't be so cynical.

"Fifty percent of Americans are obese dog. You know what obese means, right? Fat as a motherfucker. All these other countries nobody's fat. Think about this shit, dog? How does a motherfucker get fat? You gotta sit on the couch and do nothing but eat and watch TV all day. White trash, poor Mexicans and Blacks, all obese as motherfuckers. See, the white man has created a system with so much excess that even poor motherfuckers are fat."

Africa needs to fucking help themselves first. Donations are only making many things worse over there.
