Mixmag crown The Prodigy 'The Greatest Dance Act of all Time'

As DJ Mag learnt all too well last year when David Guetta was controversially named the #1 DJ in the world, using a publically voted poll to determine anything music-related can be a contentious business indeed.

The latest magazine to bravely attempt to name the best of dance music is long-running British publication Mixmag, who’ve today announced the results of their poll searching for the ‘Greatest Dance Act of all Time’. After a solid few months of nominations and collecting public votes worldwide, electronic pioneers The Prodigy have emerged in the number one spot.

Closely behind them in the number two position was Daft Punk, with The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and even Deadmau5 all cracking the top 10. Conspicuously absent from the list, however, are the likes of Aphex Twin and Burial.

Of their victory, The Prodigy’s Keith Flint commented “To walk off a stage and feel like we smashed it – that’s the reward for us, to see the crowd react and know we’ve done what we’ve come to do. But something like this is truly voted for by the people – and essentially we are nothing without them, so it feels awesome and really respectful.”

Check out the full top 20 below and chip in your $0.02 – any glaring omissions or unworthy inclusions?

I'm not the biggest fan of Groove Armada or Above and Beyond, but the fact that Justice is above them is a fucking despicable injustice.

In addition, Deadmaus above Orbital and Leftfield? Fuck and off.

As someone above said, asides from Deadmau5 and the order, that's a decent list.

Pretty good list IMO. Prodigy truly deserve #1 spot.

Prodigy certainly deserve it over Daft Punk...but the likes of Orbital and Leftfield should definitely be in the top 5!

I was hoping Kraftwerk was gonna be higher up the list seeing as it one of the founders to the industry in very early days well before 99% on what's on the list but i guess it's all about who most popular to date,

Yep, great to see The Prodigy top the list. As for the other faves from the list, they'd be Daft Punk, Faithless, Orbital, Moby, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode.I don't mind seeing Deadmau5 on the list, but frankly I'd put him much lover and definitely not in the top 10.

Pendulum? Are you joking? Whatever you may think of their music, bad or good, they have been around for 2 seconds and have provided next to nothing in comparison to the other inspirational acts of the class of leftfield, orbital, the chems and of course the prodigy. I think that fatboy slim, plump dj's, soulwax, are some that I would have loved to see. Also the fact that aphex twin and other amazing mind benders haven't featured is fairly sad. But couldn't agree more with the number 1!!
