Word has arrived that hyper-goth electro duo Crystal Castles are about to begin recording their third album – and it’s comforting to know that every song is set to be “bleak”. Prefix Mag and BPM both reported that the duo are about to head to Croatia to record the new album, because it’s “a good place to cut off from everything”. In an as-yet unpublished interview with NME (leaked onto the Crystal Castles message boards), the duo’s Ethan Kath explained, “Every song we write feels bleak to me. I don’t get it when people think it’s beautiful. I think it [bleakness] is the only emotion we do. We don’t want to do anything else.”

While Kath admitted that the Alice Glass and himself have a stockpile of unreleased material from previous recording sessions, the 2012 release won’t be “recycled trash”. Kath also noted, “I think people trust us and they know we’d never disappoint them.” Now, let’s hope they title the damn thing this time.
