Here’s a great idea: Erol Alkan from 9pm till 6am

Pre-2009, it seemed as if our pleas for an Erol Alkan tour were falling on deaf ears. Parklife managed to turn all that around by booking the esteemed Londoner alongside MSTRKRFT, Tiga, A-Trak and Empire Of The Sun on that year’s bill, and he was coaxed back again to help ring in 2011. As predictably great as his festival sets were, you can’t help looking at the DJ’s Easter tradition in London for an idea of what the ultimate Erol Alkan tour would look like.
Starting in 2009, Alkan sets aside Easter Thursday for a marathon set at an up-close-and-personal club. Playing for five hours in the first year and gradually moving up to eight hours in 2011, 5 April 2012 sees the man getting in the Olympic spirit with a nine hour session from 9pm till 6am. With a record collection as deep as Alkan’s, this could only be an amazing journey.
“Early birds will find the club candlelit with Erol playing a selection that moves from beat-less ambience, through psych and disco dubs (and last year an incredible extended version of a UB40 track!),” the spiel reads. “He’ll then take you on a journey through techno, pop, disco, vintage house and some fond references to his legendary club Trash. Last year was the best set he’d ever played. You don’t want to miss him eclipse even that!” What we would do for a recording of that…or indeed an all-expenses-paid trip to be on the dancefloor.
