Maya Jane Coles gets her DJ Kicks on

Just a week after the announcement that drum & bass innovator Photek will be taking the reins on the first DJ Kicks mix for the new year, the series is keeping the good news coming. In April, toast of 2011 Maya Jane Coles will be stepping up for what’s sure to be a hotly-anticipated edition. The house star has approached her mix with a discerning ear to ensure this one’s a keeper.

“I wanted this mix to showcase my diversity,” Coles says in the press notes. “I don’t just do one thing and I wanted it to reflect that. Most of the mixes I’ve put out there so far have been house based, but I also produce stuff under the Nocturnal Sunshine moniker, which is more two-step/bass influenced stuff. This mix evolved into something that wasn’t just four-to-the-floor.”

Looks like the same format as any other DJ compilation, which is a shame. I hope DJ Kicks don't continue to follow down this path.

She's proven, through early releases on 1Trax and more recent cuts on the likes Real Tone etc. that she is indeed capable of different sounds. I agree, she must be brought down here.
