Much talked-about US star Skrillex has a slew of 2012 Grammy nominations to his name, and he’s just started winning some statuettes in the awards’ pre-program. The Future Music Festival 2012 recruit has already taken out Best Remixed Recording (Non-Classical) for his take on Benny Benassi’s Cinema and Best Dance Recording for Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites. Just to round it off, he’s also won Best Dance/Electronica Album ahead of Cut Copy’s Zonoscope, Deadmau5’s 4×4 = 12, David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat and Robyn’s Body Talk Pt. 3. “This is really crazy for me, man,” Skrillex said on his first trip up to the stage. “I made this song in my bedroom when I was living illegally in a warehouse in downtown L.A.”
“If I can win grammys then that means all you yet to be seen bedroom geniuses will one day TAKEOVER THE WORLD,” Skrillex blasted on Twitter.
Having scooped the pool in the pre-show program, Skrillex entered the Grammys with three awards under his arm and strong hopes of taking home the gong for Best New Artist. One of the most coveted accolades at the awards, the category saw Skrillex up against Bon Iver, Nicki Minaj, The Band Perry and J. Cole. Despite his hot streak, though, the star was pipped by indie-folk hero Bon Iver.
