Sydney’s re-opened Ambercrombie Hotel – home to parties from several prominent local crews – has sustained “significant damage” after a fire this morning. According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, emergency services were called to the pub around 2.40am, arriving to find the ground floor ablaze, with smoke and water damage to the upper levels. The fire is believed to be suspicious.

The Abercrombie – located on the corner of Broadway and Abercrombie Streets, Chippendale – closed down in 2009, pending a re-development to the brewery next door. It re-opened as a gastro pub last year under the management of Jamie Wirth (Bang Gang DJs) and James Miller. with nightclub owner John Ibrahim also rumoured to be involved.

The heritage-listed Abercrombie was built on the site of the Carlton United Brewery in 1938.
