Jaytech kicks off inthemix Guest Editor stint
Tue 8th May, 2012 in News 302 views
An enduring favourite around these parts, Jaytech’s rise to international fame was only a matter of time. From his beginnings as one of Canberra’s most reliable DJs, James Cayzer piqued the interest of heavyweight trance outfit Above & Beyond, who identified his golden touch in the studio and artful approach as a selector. Soon enough, he found himself Above & Beyond’s warm-up DJ of choice, often tasked with bringing the trio’s shows to simmering point.
These days, Jaytech helms the Anjunadeep label alongside fellow dependable James Grant, hosts a regular radio show and of course criss-crosses the globe on a non-stop tour schedule. He’s landing this weekend in Australia for a string of shows, then it’s promptly off to Las Vegas for Electric Daisy Carnival, followed by Global Gathering Ukraine and Tomorrowland in Belgium. In between all those duties, he manages to keep up a prodigious work-rate in the studio, turning out warm, melodic gear that sets the tone for Anjunadeep.
Given his status as a bit of an inthemix hero, we asked Jaytech to step up as Guest Editor for a week. So far he’s talked us through ten records that have helped influence his career, including untouchable classics from Way Out West, Hybrid and James Holden. He’s followed that with an hour-long mix on ITM-FM that offers a snapshot of his DJ smarts. His streaming session features a few prime productions of his own alongside trusty weapons by Suspect 44, Matan Caspi, Johan Vilborg, Max Freegrant and more.
If you’re after even more Jaytech, head to his Facebook page to unlock a free download. It’s his 2012 remix of his own Overdrive, which he also worked into that ITM-FM mix. Stay tuned for more from the high-flying DJ-producer this week.
Jaytech tour dates:
Friday 11 May – Perth, Shape
Saturday 12 May – Sydney, Chinese Laundry
Friday 18 May – Hobart, Plan B Nightclub
Saturday 19 May – Melbourne, Room680
