Ultra Music Festival reveals first European line-up

In case you haven’t heard, the Ultra Music Festival in Miami is now one of the world’s biggest marathons for dance music. The event draws 200,000 party people across three days to downtown Miami, and nothing is done by halves. As Tiesto put it: “All the DJs play Ultra every year.” In 2012, the line-up included bankable big names like David Guetta and Armin van Buuren, scene titans Carl Cox, Sven Vath, John Digweed, Adam Beyer and DJ Shadow (to skim the surface), fast-rising stars like Zedd, Mord Fustang, Gesaffelstein and Tommy Trash, live legends Kraftwerk and New Order, plus so much more in each category.

Having come up with a winning formula Stateside, Ultra Music Festival is now looking to the dance music Mecca of Europe. Instead of muscling in on the already festival-overloaded destinations like Germany or The Netherlands, Ultra’s heading to Warsaw in Poland for its first European outing in July.

The first round of names has now been announced, and it’s certainly a case of Miami déjà vu. Tiesto, Avicii, Afrojack and Above & Beyond will headline, while other big draws include Knife Party and a back-to-back set from Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso (wonder how much you save on leaving Axwell out of the equation?). The Carl Cox & Friends arena features Richie Hawtin, Magda, Sven Vath, Art Department and more, for those who prefer dance music on a less ‘mainstage’ tip.

The two-day UMF Poland event will be located at the Hippodrome, a racetrack in Warsaw that’s twice the size of Miami’s venue Bayfront Park.
