Richie Hawtin’s 2012 Ibiza residency (and sake bar)

As it stands, techno maven Richie Hawtin will be making just one appearance for his German offsider Sven Vath at Cocoon Ibiza this season. Now we know why, with Hawtin announcing ENTER., his new residency on Thursdays at Space. In revealing his plans, the DJ made a point of acknowledging his former digs: “After an incredible and life-defining relationship with Sven and the Cocoon family on the island, I felt the time was right to develop my own vision on what an Ibiza experience might be.”
This is the first time Hawtin will spearhead his own regular party on the White Isle, with 12 dates from 5 July to 20 September. The main room will be ‘augmented’ by new ‘structural lighting installations and technologies’, with the headliner joined by a rotating cast of Minus artists and assorted friends. Space’s Terrace will be presented in collaboration with Space’s usual Thursday fixture Kehakuma, while one area will be transformed into ENTER.Sake, ‘the island’s first true Sake Bar experience’. As keen fans will know, Hawtin’s abiding love of Japan has led to him training as a sake sommelier. The intimate Japanese-themed room will feature surprise DJ sets and pre-parties leading into the main action. One to add to our ‘Ibiza Hit List’, for sure.
Meanwhile, Sven Vath is forging on with his other offsiders Ricardo Villalobos and Loco Dice, who will both make regular appearances in the booth at Amnesia. Techno guns like Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer and Chris Liebing will be there too, while the newest addition to the Cocoon family is Joris Voorn, who knows a thing or two about commanding big rooms. As Hawtin told Resident Advisor, Thursday is the best night for ENTER. as it puts it at a distance from Cocoon, Carl Cox’s The Revolution and Luciano’s Sunday night blowout Vagabundos.
