Sydney weekend forecast: there will be dancing
Fri 25th May, 2012 in News 562 views
This weekend sees the Vivid Sydney celebrations shift into gear for 2012, as the sails of the Opera House go up in lights and the musical spoils begin. Tonight (Friday 25 May), live powerhouse PVT takes the stage in the Opera Theatre, while down in The Studio, those dependable tastemakers Niche Productions present a double bill headlined by two standout talents: Danny Brown alongside M.E.D. Meanwhile, just up the road, our Fridays inthemix guests the Future Classic DJs bring their well-stocked record bags to The Spice Cellar.
Over on Saturday, one of Sydney’s finest selectors Ken Cloud leads the way at Picnic’s One Night Stand with an extended session of house, techno and other goodies. For the turntablism fans, there’s the inimitable DJ Craze at Chinese Laundry, while Lapalux and oOoOO do forward-thinking electronics at Astral People’s return to Goodgod. If you’re after an injection of homegrown techno talent, make a beeline for One22, where underground luminary Little Nobody heads up an IF? Records label night.
The weekend also boasts back-to-back nights at the Opera Theatre from the incredible Janelle Monae & her ArchAndroid Orchestra, while on Sunday, our very own sonic adventurers Seekae make a deserved headline appearance in the Vivid spotlight. That only skims the surface, though, of what the coming days have to offer, so get trawling the What’s On to make your party plan.
