Mark Farina kicked off decks by "table service crowd"

UPDATE: Marquee have responded to the Farina’s claims, defending “It was the end of the afternoon and management made a decision to reschedule him for another day”.

Two weekends ago, house hero Mark Farina joined the fleet of DJs and live acts in Detroit for the Movement Electronic Music Festival, where he played a mood-setting Mushroom Jazz set on the mainstage alongside Greg Wilson, Todd Terje, Derrick Carter and Lil Louis. The weekend just gone didn’t go so smoothly. Rolling up to the Marquee Day Club in Las Vegas on Saturday 2 June to bring some sunshine-friendly house to the pool area, Farina didn’t make it very far.

“Supposed to be going on now…but got the boot, apparently too much house for this Vegas crowd,” he wrote on Twitter. “My deepest apologies to all the true house heads that showed up. Was out of my control, unfortunately.” True to form, the House Gangster himself DJ Sneak had a speedy reply: “You gotta fight back man. You earned you spot. Tell them mf who mark farina is.” In response, Farina wrote: “My liaison said manager was getting complaints from their table service crowd.” The party also featured Miguel Migs, but it looks like he survived the table service gauntlet…

saw him a couple months in Whistler and was awesome. wish people would appreciate the chance to listen to a legend

Considering the state of dance music in the US right now, Farina could almost take getting the boot as a compliment. He can join the growing ranks of great dj's that America has no appreciation for.

So people sitting at a table dictated what got played??????? WTF!

Miza101 said on the 4th Jun, 2012

Disgusting. His Mushroom Jazz Cd's are still on High Rotation

Why do they book these guys? No-one is going to Vegas for good music...

randomsoul said on the 4th Jun, 2012

Sadly the venue's have paying customers dropping 50K on a table that dictate more than paying a DJ 3-5K.. this is the risk when doing an event at these kind of venue's these days.. very lame..

harryhotspur82 said on the 4th Jun, 2012

I wonder if SHM or Douche Guetta would have got the boot? This makes me angry...

Mickstah said on the 4th Jun, 2012

real house music in Vegas? Think not.

shr3dder said on the 4th Jun, 2012

Terrible. Hardly surprising though. Everyone in that place would be a moron.

Unbelievable. But honestly, Vegas pretty much represents the fall of modern civilisation, so this is no surprise...

David Guetta

I've seen Mark 3 times. Once in Vancouver and twice in Calgary and all three times he killed it. Too bad yuppies with too much money had a say in kicking him off the decks. Too bad the club gave into them which will just encourage others in table service to think they can get away with the same... anyone know who replaced him??

pharaohnefertiti said on the 5th Jun, 2012

@ David Guetta: and this is why I'd never see you "spin" cause you deserve to get bumpity bump bumped from the decks, even if it was a free event

I was unfortunately one of the table service crowd at Marquee nightclub the night before and was disgusted at the state of clubbing out here.. besides the $900 bottles of grey goose the whole place stinks of the biggest commercial rort targeting a douchebag and bimbo crowd.. the majority of Americans have no idea what true club culture is all about. This is no surprise at all.. sad

This is exactly what's wrong with dance music today. It's become commercial pop crap where a DJ is the guy who plays the same commercial crap as the DJ before and his skill involves fist pumping and putting his hands in the air.
Avicii, Afrojack, Swedish House Mafia??? If any of these fools had half the skill as Farina, they wouldn't need to have big fuck off LED screens, fireworks or DJ in a bloody head! Bring back the real DJs in this world!

YossarianIsSane said on the 9th Jun, 2012

Blame the promoters not the crowd, if I book some 'legends' of house music, I don't do it for a random crowd who may not even like house, let alone know who he is.

Likewise if some cunt books skrillex while i'm trying to get table service on a nice afternoon...

Morphee said on the 10th Jun, 2012

Apparently this also happened to Calvin Harris 2 days ago in Vegas as well.. he wasnt playing enough "hip hop", though, he redacted and deleted all his tweets about it, as he is still getting his pay cheque..

its the USA, they don't even know what dance music is. they think flo rida tracks are awesome electronic music! i would only play in places in the USA where the only thing in the fridge was water, at least then you know the people appreciate good music, and aren'ty in the club(or whatever) to show off their trophy girlfriend or $800 shoes.
