Tiesto’s take on DJ X-Factor: “I’m not sure Simon’s capable”

It’s been an amusing few months since former Idol judge Simon Cowell announced his plans for “X-Factor for DJs”. From day dot, there’s been little doubt that the show will be a giant stinking turd of a production, so it’s not surprising that a number of dance music’s big names have come out to blast Cowell’s plans. First up, Steve Lawler posted a brilliant Simon Cowell piss-take video (which you can relive below) and then John Digweed gave us his own scathing assessment of the show. Now, the Stereosonic-bound Tiesto has contributed his own $0.02 on the matter.
In an interview with Digital Spy , Tiesto was asked if he’d consider being a judge on the X-Factor spin-off. “Yeah, I would actually,” he responded. “Only if we could do it in the way I like it. I would make sure a DJ would look good and I’m not sure if Simon’s capable to do that. He’s done an amazing job on Idol and all those shows, but for a DJ to look good on television in three to five minutes isn’t easy. DJs need hours, so I can’t get my head around how it would look on television.
“If we could find a way to make it work, it will be a really cool show,” Tijs continued. “Most of the time – at the Grammys for example – a DJ will perform with just their hands in the air because they can’t do anything and that makes it a little awkward, I think.” A DJ performing awkwardly at the Grammys? You don’t say.
