It's here: Justin Bieber drops his first 'dubstep' track

Image for It's here: Justin Bieber drops his first 'dubstep' track

Remember when Justin Bieber declared he was going dubstep? “What’s big right now are beats that are in the clubs, like dubstep”, began his personally delivered warning cry in November last year. “So I want to mess with that stuff, but also stay me.” Well, the fateful day has come: the Biebs’ first foray into bass-y territory has arrived.

The newly post-pubescent star dropped As Long As You Love Me last night, and while it’d be hard to classify the tune as ‘dubstep’ with a straight face, it’s definitely got a harsher edge than his standard fairy-floss fare. Evidently, it’s just the right level of bass for same: As Long As You Love Me has already hit #2 on the iTunes charts, second only to the Calvin Harris kryptonite, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. If you’re aching for more of the same (because you are, right?), you’ll only have to hold on until next week when the tween heartthrob drops his new, possibly wubb-ier album Believe.

If you’re in a masochistic mood, you can listen to the song below. This might also be a good time to have a read of our in-depth feature on what America is doing to dance music.

Umm - yeah. There's no guitar in the track, so wtf is he holding a guitar for in the cover art? Stupidity. That aside, this is actually better than any of his other teeny crap. Still shit though - just a slightly less offensive smell.

As a foray into dubstep by Bieber, or anyone for that matter, it never was going to be very good was it? F'ing dubstep.. Die. Quick.

rentboyesq

rentboyesq said on the 16th Jun, 2012

This is not a bad track. Nor is it good. It's just nothing, sterile and soulless. It's a dubstep track that you've heard a hundred times before, and will hear a hundred times again before the pop music world gets sick of the genre and moves on to whatever all us truly forward-thinking cool kids on ITM have discovered several years earlier.

The hate stems, of course, mostly from the fact it's Bieber on vocals. You people don't like it? NO SHIT. You're a decade or more outside the target demographic. This is music designed for tween girls to close their bedroom door, close their eyes, turn the track up loud, and drift away to romantic fantasy.

wellbutchered said on the 16th Jun, 2012

DJ_KidDyl

DJ_KidDyl said on the 16th Jun, 2012

No. The track is NOT good in any regard. It's utter shit.
Who cares what the target audience is. The fact of the matter is, the track is 100% garbage and you should feel bad for defending any aspect of it.

rentboyesq

rentboyesq said on the 16th Jun, 2012

I should "feel bad" for recognising this for what it is?? It's a commercial product, nothing more. It's not aspiring to be high art. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Don't listen to radio stations that play it. Don't go into shitty clothing stores that keep it on their iPod playlist. Simple as that.

Don't get so riled up, friend. There entire world will have forgotten about "As long as you love me" in a matter of months, and Bieber will be playing RSLs when he visits Australia in five years' time to celebrate his comeback Christmas album.

The cycle will keep on turning, no matter how much you hate it. Bieber 2.0 is always just around the corner.........
