It's here: Justin Bieber drops his first 'dubstep' track

Remember when Justin Bieber declared he was going dubstep? “What’s big right now are beats that are in the clubs, like dubstep”, began his personally delivered warning cry in November last year. “So I want to mess with that stuff, but also stay me.” Well, the fateful day has come: the Biebs’ first foray into bass-y territory has arrived.

The newly post-pubescent star dropped As Long As You Love Me last night, and while it’d be hard to classify the tune as ‘dubstep’ with a straight face, it’s definitely got a harsher edge than his standard fairy-floss fare. Evidently, it’s just the right level of bass for same: As Long As You Love Me has already hit #2 on the iTunes charts, second only to the Calvin Harris kryptonite, Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe. If you’re aching for more of the same (because you are, right?), you’ll only have to hold on until next week when the tween heartthrob drops his new, possibly wubb-ier album Believe.

If you’re in a masochistic mood, you can listen to the song below. This might also be a good time to have a read of our in-depth feature on what America is doing to dance music.
