Brooding Londoners the xx are teasing Australian fans with a pair of shows next month offering a preview of their new record Coexist to the very lucky punters who manages to score a ticket. The shows at the Metro in Sydney and Forum in Melbourne sold out immediately and two intimate solo shows for band leader and all-round impresario of bass Jamie xx also sold out in a matter of minutes.
The tour promoters Handsome Tours have aplogised to all the fans who missed out and for “any inconvenience caused throughout the ticketing process”. Handsome has also thanked punters for their “overwhelming response [which] exceeded everyone’s expectations” and promised that “plans are already underway for a larger return tour in 2013”.
Although the news isn’t quite as exciting as an announcement of additional shows in July, everyone who had entered the ticket ballot for will be offered priority pre-sale tickets to the 2013 shows once they are announced. Coexist will be released on the 7th of September and hopefully those 2013 tour dates will follow soon after. It looks like Jamie xx is going to need bigger club shows that time, too.
