Stereosonic drops huge 2012 line-up

Image for Stereosonic drops huge 2012 line-up

After much impatient waiting, wish-listing and rumour-mongering, now comes the time to lay eyes on the real deal: the 2012 Stereosonic line-up. And isn’t it a monster? The travelling dance festival once again presents a blockbuster roll-call of A-listers, fresh faces and scene legends to help kick off summer. With five stops across two weekends and a host of stages covering techno, trance, dubstep, electro, house and more, it’s the line-up that proves bigger is better. As well as a few returning heroes, Stereosonic ‘12 is also bringing some new faces and arenas to make this year the most diverse yet.

Where to begin? We’ve known for a while now that Dutch goliath Tiesto is in the top spot, following his pyro-heavy closing sets on the mainstage in 2010. With a new album in the works and his festival game-plan water-tight, he’s as headliner-worthy as they come. After pulling huge crowds at Stereosonic 2011, Swedish sensation Avicii is also locked in, with chart-ruling crossover king Calvin Harris completing the trifecta of DJ top-billers. From there, well, the list goes on. On the live front, there’s Example and the livewire antics of Major Lazer, while mainstage-ruling types like Laidback Luke, Chuckie and Martin Solveig are also bringing their CD wallets and USBs.

Stereosonic has always nailed the trance contingent, and 2012 is no different. Following his much-buzzed-about sets on last year’s tour, Dash Berlin is back, alongside Sander van Doorn, Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Orjan Nilsen and Simon Patterson. The mighty Carl Cox is also back on the bill, with his own arena now under the banner of ‘The Revolution Continues’. He’s not the only techno big gun, either. At last, Adam Beyer has signed on the dotted line to bring his Drumcode magic back down here, plus we’ll get festival-sized tech-house and techno from Joris Voorn and Loco Dice.

For the first time in Australia, there’s also a Hard Arena presented by L.A. gun Destructo and a stage curated by the forward-thinking Social Club in Paris. No doubt we’ll hear plenty more about what’s planned for those corners of the festival. Do you like bass? You’re in luck (again), thanks to speaker-rattling stars Bassnectar, Flux Pavilion, Excision, Datsik and Caspa.

One standout feature of the line-up is the checklist of names that ITMers have been asking for. There’s the double-whammy of Gallic dream team Gesaffelstein and Brodinski, the much-awaited Zedd booking, Europe’s house heroine Nina Kraviz, the always-mind-messing Mr Oizo and fast-rising boy wonder Porter Robinson. Then there are hot topics in their respective scenes, like bass-heavy outfit Krewella and French party collective Club Cheval. There’s so much more as well, you’re probably better off just diving straight into the line-up!

The first release tickets go on sale 9am, Thursday 2 August, through Ticketmaster – the festival’s new ticket-seller.

Are you guys sure you haven't made a mistake here? This is almost EXACTLY the SAME headliners as 2010???? Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Avicii, Carl Cox, Major Lazer??? Surely this isn't right and you've just accidentally posted line up from 2010?

Gessafalstein, Alvin Risk and Dillon Francis would be good but there's no way I'm going to put up with the ugliest clueless roid boy crowd I've ever seen anywhere who all they want to do is take their shirts off and fist pump!!!

And given the top 3 headliners, I can only imagine there's going to be even more of those roid boy muzzas than last year if that's even possible...

I was hoping for something special to make me ignore the horrible crowd last year but hoping for some side shows for Dillon!!

so many hipsters in the comments already. "oh man i've seen all these guys before they were cool" "meh."
get real. its a lineup of huge names going to the wrong end of the planet. ive been to festivals where half these guys have played before as well but that doesnt mean there werent clashes etc.
ive had tickets to porter robinson and missed him..twice!
recycled isnt neccesarily bad. this lineup is fantastic.

Seriously it never ceases to amaze me the amount of whinging when a lineup comes out on ITM. That lineup is huge and there is plenty for everyone's tastes! Yeh there is some cheese but they need to make their money and draw the crowds somehow. If you couldn't make a good day out of something from that lineup, I'd be amazed.

josh_goods

josh_goods said on the 5th Jul, 2012

I'm not complaining about it being recycled, I don't really care about that and Creamfields UK churns out the same line up ever year. But that trance line up is really safe. Aly & Fila are here at least twice a year, they sell tickets. Patterson and Orjan are in a similar basket too... I guess I was hoping for some innovation, something different or new. Mat Zo? Norin & Rad? ah well, great work bringing back Sander n Schulzy.
Just realised there is like, 1 DJ on this list I haven't seen... trying not to make recycled comment, but there are a lot more DJ's out there
