Black Eyed Pea boots Cassian and Anna Lunoe off the decks in LA

UPDATE:

Drai’s have responded to backlash on their Facebook page with a lengthy statement regarding the incident: “At the last minute, our friends from The BEP’s asked if they could join our event after their sold-out performance at the H’wd Bowl. Since they were bringing so many friends and fans, they also asked if they could jump on and perform with our previously scheduled talent. We were happy to have them and flattered that they’d be willing to perform for us at no cost or obligation.

“Now, with the addition of 3 other DJ’s on the night, we had to reduce set times so that all artists got 30 minutes on the decks. Cassian played his set and was not “pulled off” by anyone. Although, it’s probably better for his career to say so on Twitter. Anna never played at all (by our request), she hung out with her friends instead…to those fans who were disappointed by Cassian’s reduced set-time and Anna’s rescheduling: We sincerely apologize and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive us.” Read the full thing here.

First, house hero Mark Farina was kicked off the decks at Marquee in Vegas by a “table service crowd”. Next up, Calvin Harris alleged he too had been given the boot by a Vegas crowd for declining to spin hip-hop and Call Me Maybe sensation Carly Rae Jepsen. Well, they say bad things come in threes – and sure enough, tonight has seen two more esteemed DJs trumped to make way for a bigger commercial name.

This time, it’s some of our own local talent. Sydney-bred DJ Cassian and recent Flume collaborator Anna Lunoe were both due to rep’ Australia at Hollywood venue Drai’s this evening. But midway through Cassian’s set (and before Anna took the decks) the pair suffered the ultimate indignity: being given the boot in favour of a Black Eyed Pea.

Earlier this evening, Cassian tweeted “@annalunoe and myself kicked off the decks in Hollywood by the Black Eyed Peas.” According to reports on ground, the guilty Black Eyed Pea wasn’t even primary punching bag will.i.am, but lesser-known bandmate apl.de.ap (real name or Allan Pineda Lindo, Jr.) “Really sorry for those who came to see me play tonight”, Lunoe tweeted. “Obviously it was out of my control”. We’ll bring any further updates as they come.

If Anna Lunoe and Cassian ever thought that they would be given precedence over a musical act as commercially successful as the BEP, then they are delusional. They should be content with the fact they earn a superfluous amount of money for simply playing the recordings of other peoples music. Here's an Idea: Sit down and create something from scratch, your 'own' creation, in fact create a bunch of them. Then turn them into hugely successful songs-as successful as the BEP...Then you might have a chance you delusional human jukeboxes.

Anna Lunoe and Cassian are just as bad as the BEP so who cares? Either way they're all going to be playing the same shitty commercial crap.
