Needless to say, 2010’s 4×4=12 was a big hit for the perennially-outspoken Deadmau5. So coming up to two years later, it’s unsurprising that the mau5 has got some big plans in store for his sixth studio album. The general idea? He’s going to release a series of EPs over the coming months, which will then be rolled into a full-length album due out later this year. The first of these EPs was last month’s The Veldt and now, we’ve got the first (official) taste of EP number two.
The latest product of Joel Zimmerman’s labour is the track Professional Griefers. The keen mau5 fan would no doubt be aware that Professional Griefers has been floating around the web for a while now, after Zimmerman unveiled an instrumental version of the track at Lollapalooza 2011. The difference now is the addition of vocals and curiously, they come from My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way – a collaboration that’s sure to divide fans.
While the track won’t get an official release until September 2, a preview was given a spin on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show last week ahead of Deadmau5’s headline slot at London’s Wireless Festival on Friday. The Professional Griefers preview clocks up just 3:07 in length, but it’s likely that the full version will run for longer – after all, The Veldt came in at 8:42 long. Listen to the radio rip below.
