THE 2013 LINE-UP IS JUST ANNOUNCED! HEAD HERE TO SEE IT.

UPDATE: ITM has just been given this piece of info from Big Day Out HQ to get you guessing for the announcement. The line-up will include: “6 acts playing their first ever Australian shows. Closer to 30 acts who’ve never played BDO before and at least 16 acts with new albums coming.” Intriguing!

As inthemix announced earlier this week, Big Day Out is itching to let its 2013 line-up out of the bag, bringing the announcement date forward a few months to next Monday July 16, at 12.01am. Given the earlier-than-usual buzz that’s building, the internet has already responded with the customary round of terribly-faked line-up posters. The true details of who’s on the bill are being kept tightly under wraps, but we suspect the dance contingent is going to once again be heavily-stacked.

In 2012, the Boiler Room went bass-heavy with the full Nero live show (described by the guys to inthemix as “a clash of retro and futuristic”), Bassnectar and Shockone. One of the ace-cards of the line-up was the much-awaited live return of Royksopp, who wowed the Boiler Room in the afternoon, while Girl Talk, Odd Future and (in some cities) Miss Kittin also led the dancing.

If there’s a pattern to be drawn from the Boiler Room bookings in recent years, it’s electronic music that works in big spaces and across age brackets. The aforementioned terrible fake flyers have The Presets and Underworld (who aren’t on an album tour cycle) mentioned, but we’re thinking more along the lines of Borgore, Knife Party, Feed Me or Noisia. Fast-rising stars Hardwell and Nicky Romero would also fit the bill, and so far they haven’t turned up on a forthcoming line-up. Euphoric, festival-sized electro and house is probably not a bad bet, as anyone who witnessed the rave-up for Calvin Harris’s live sets in 2010 can attest to.

In recent years, the festival has also welcomed Sasha, Vitalic and Booka Shade, so a James Zabiela or Green Velvet-style wildcard wouldn’t be out of the question. Hot Chip told inthemix they’d be here “at the end of the year or the beginning of the new year”, but they’ve just turned up on the Falls Festival line-up, but we wouldn’t count on electronic/indie darling Grimes.

So, who are you tipping? The Pendulum reunion tour? (Just kidding.) Let us know in the comments field below, and keep those eyes peeled for the official announce next Monday July 16. Whoever makes the cut, we get the feeling it’s going to be big.
