Marco Polo returns to ivy for new season

Starting Sunday 30 September (just as the weather is warming up), Marco Polo takes over ivy for a new season of weekly parties. The launch party sets the tone with two drawcard internationals: U.S. disco sensation Gigamesh and New York club kingpin Tommie Sunshine. That’s just the beginning, too. The main residents for the season are Lancelot, Robbie Lowe and Nukewood, and there’s set to be around 15 internationals across the 29 Sundays.
We threw some questions to Ignacio and Hadi from Swerve Productions about Marco Polo. “This season we continue with the similar characteristics as last year and create an even greater party atmosphere with a vast array of internationals that have been lined up this summer, covering genres such as French house, disco and deep house just to name a few,” they said.
As for ivy, the Marco Polo team sell it as the perfect setting for a summer party. “It’s not every day that you get to party on a rooftop pool, lined with palm trees and cabanas, drinks flowing behind the bar and be accompanied by a fun, easy-going and like-minded crowd all there with the sole purpose of partying and having a good time.”
The pool level of ivy will cater for “deep, disco and big room house sounds”, while the Change Room starts and finishes later with “hip hop, RnB, house classics and some heavier tunes towards the later end of the night”.
With a 29-week season, there’s a lot of line-ups to sort out. “One of the biggest challenges this season was to secure a solid and reputable list of internationals, everyone knows the market is extremely competitive with so many festivals on,” Ignacio and Hadi tell ITM. “Fortunately we are lucky to have many touring agents who support us and we can announce that our launch party on September 30 will feature Tommie Sunshine and Gigamesh.
“Some other names we can announce for the first half of this season are Punks Jump Up, Goldroom, Moullinexx, Doctor Dru and maybe a few secret announcements later on.” Stay tuned for details, and check out the video below from Aeroplane’s stop at Marco Polo last season.
