Listen: Boys Noize premieres "raw and rough” album track

Back in June, German club maestro Boys Noize announced his third album was “98.9% finished”. Now it looks like the last 1.1% has been tied off, with the man otherwise known as Alex Ridha setting October 2 as the release date for the new LP, Out Of The Black. Ridha has showcased the opening track, What You Want, through Rolling Stone overnight. It’s a typically punchy banger from Boys Noize, complete with processed vocal refrain and a progression that gets gnarlier around the 2:30 mark. It certainly packs a lot into five minutes. You can assess it for yourself in the Soundcloud embed below.
“This particular track was inspired by the vibes I get from the Beastie Boys, for instance,” Ridha mused to Rolling Stone. “Their Licensed to Ill album is one of my all-time favorite records, and to me What You Want has some sort of B-boy style mixed with my obsession on robot vocals and modern sound aesthetics. This song combines a lot of things I love about electronic music.” He also cites it as a return to the “raw and rough sound” of his earlier studio handiwork.
Out Of The Black is coming out on Boys Noize Records, and follows the producer’s previous pair of albums, 2007’s Oi Oi Oi and 2009’s Power. In the three years since Power, Ridha has never been busier, producing for artists like Scissor Sisters and Spank Rock and collaborating with three of the coolest cats in the biz: Erol Alkan, Mr Oizo and Chilly Gonzales. His ongoing love affair with techno was showcased on Adonis, his outing for Sven Vath’s Cocoon flagship, so we can hope to hear all shades of his sound on Out Of The Black. Then of course there is his plan to take a new “terminatoresque” stage set-up called The Skull around the world, with any luck reaching Australia before too long.
