One of the brightest stars in house and techno, Maceo Plex has locked in his rumoured November tour. The DJ will be touching down in Sydney for the Circo Loco Halloween Party at Greenwood Hotel on Saturday 3 November, joining fellow Ibiza pros Matthias Tanzmann and Margaret Dygas. You can expect more dates to follow, and we’ll keep you updated on that front. Tickets for the Circo Loco party go on-sale 9 August 2012. Just announced: the Melbourne show is to be a smalltown presents Circo Loco event at Brown Alley on Sunday 4 November with the same three headliners.
The last 12 months at least have been a whirlwind run for the U.S. producer otherwise known as Eric Estornel, thanks to his releases on Crosstown Rebels (who also released his debut album), No.19 Music and his own Ellum Audio. Then of course there’s his Maetrik guise, which deals in more streamlined techno. Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus identified his studio talents and recruited him to make a house album. “The man is very good at A&R,” quipped Estornel to DJ Mag USA recently. “I want to add a little more ‘oomph’ to things,” he said of his approach to DJing in that interview. “Even if it is a slow, deep, really sexy, really beautiful track, it’s got to have ‘oomph’ underneath, which comes from my electro/techno background, so it is not a pure sound – it is a little crossover. If you are into techno, you can dig it. If you are into house, you can also dig it.”
Unsurprisingly plenty of people have been digging it. You can take a listen to his Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 below to hear how he does his thing. He stocks it out with his own productions alongside other dancefloor burners.
