Sonic Animation, Blondie & more for Homebake 2012
Mon 30th Jul, 2012 Newsin
For its ‘Global Edition’ this December, Homebake is returning to Sydney’s The Domain with an international drawcard in the headline spot: U.S. rock/dance crossover heroes Blondie. With hallmark tracks like Heart Of Glass, Hanging on the Telephone and Atomic, the band will be closing out the mainstage with a hit-heavy set-list. On board from the Southern Hemisphere are headliners Tim Minchin, Hilltop Hoods, Kimbra and Danniel Merriweather.
On the dance and electronic front, Homebake has snagged Sonic Animation for a special ‘best of’ return to the stage. The last time we saw Sonic Animation on-stage was in the Boiler Room at Big Day Out back in 2006, when they stepped in to replace Mylo. Their raved-up live show was never complete without an appearance from the band’s furry mascots Robert Roley and Theophilus Thistler. The second and third Sonic Animation albums – Orchid for the Afterworld and Reality by Deception – spawned their biggest tracks Theophilus Thistler, I’m a DJ and Love Lies Bleeding. In 2005, they signed off with a ‘best of’ package Eleven.
Also on board is New Zealand drum & bass unit Shapeshifter. The group has a water-tight reputation for its live shows, as has been attested many times on the pages of inthemix. “The thing that struck me at this gig was the way that Shapeshifter’s tunes develop and evolve,” our Sydney show reviewer wrote in 2010. “Jazzy ambience builds to furious D&B synth stabs. Their composition is a beautiful thing to behold, and the surprises therein levelled the dancefloor.” Electro-pop frontman Sam Sparro, electronic adventurers Seekae and more are also on the line-up.
