How’s this for a very welcome collaboration? A couple of months after announcing the impending release of a new mixtape, London electro lord Erol Alkan has teamed up with countryman Switch for a single set to be released on Alkan’s label Phantasy Sounds later this month.
According to Juno Download, the pair have buddied-up for the track A Sydney Jook, due for release on August 27. While there’s not yet any trace of A Sydney Jook on the internet (at least as far as we could tell), Juno Download have described the track as a mesh of “jackhammer kick drums, bleepy synth tones and catchy vocal and phone samples”. So far, the only other info about the release is that the original mix is due to be released alongside remixes from Night Slugs head Bok Bok and WT Records dude Willie Burns.
It’s the first time the pair have collaborated, though they’ve gone back-to-back on stage before and Switch has previously remixed Alkan-produced tracks for Late Of The Pier and Mystery Jets. Of course, both Erol Alkan and Switch are no stranger to the collaboration – Switch reportedly recently departed Major Lazer, where he’d been producing with Diplo and Alkan’s been a long-time collaborator of German techno whizz Boys Noize. Hopefully we’ll get to wrap our ears around A Sydney Jook soon – stay tuned.
