Hear Ingrosso and Alesso’s back-to-back Essential Mix

With a listing in the Guinness Book of Records as ‘the world’s largest nightclub’, Privilege Ibiza is not the place to play a slow-burning deep house set. The gargantuan 10,000-capacity institution – which also happens to house a swimming pool – goes for DJs who can comfortably fill the space. Dutch kingpin Tiesto enjoyed a stint there up until this season when he moved to over to the relatively-intimate Pacha, and now Armin van Buuren is there each Monday with his A State Of Trance residency.

As part of the recent Radio 1 Ibiza weekend, Pete Tong took his Essential Mix into the cavernous surrounds of Privilege with an eclectic bunch of DJs, including a back-to-back session from Swedish House Mafia don Sebastian Ingrosso and his protégé Alesso. The broadcast went out last weekend, and if you’re a fan of big-room house dialled up to 11, you can revisit the set in the Soundcloud embed below.

Alesso made his first trip to Australia in 2012 for a star-making run of shows on the Creamfields mainstage. In an interview with inthemix ahead of the tour, he reflected on the ‘trouse’ tag. “Ingrosso said a few years ago that it’s going to be the new thing, trance mixed with house,” he said. “He said he got a lot of shit because a lot of trance fans don’t like house, and a lot of house fans don’t like trance – but in 2010 and 2011, it was crazy with that sound everywhere. I think it’s a great sound. I get inspired by everything, and of course I get inspired of trance. I judge a track by its sound, its melody, and maybe the vocals. I don’t care that much about the genre itself.”

In their back-to-back, the Swedes worked in plenty of familiar remixes, mash-ups and productions from producers like Deniz Koyu, Tommy Trash and Michael Calfan. And, of course, the inescapable a capellas of Somebody That I Used To Know and You’ve Got The Love to close it out.

Privilege, how I miss thee. Anybody that hasn't been to this 'club' (it's like the superdome) has to make it their life's mission, truly mind blowing.

I love how the community on here are so vocal about what they don't like. Who gives a shit? No-one is asking you to listen to it so fuck off.

Trying to govern people's taste in music is so pointless. Listen to what you listen to and leave it at that.

Listen seb, stop being so stupid. Do you see threads for every essential mix done? No you do not. The fact that ceartin people like SHM (who are lowest common denominator music for morons) seem to get promo'd all the time. It annoys people. Just like how your stupidity is annoying me!

You're an idiot. Calling me stupid for being open minded about music. Ok buddy. Even if ITM did have some vested interest in putting this article up (which I doubt), what's wrong with that? The site needs money to run. Who are you to decide what they can and can't report on? Your immaturity is offensive.
