With euphoric single Feel The Love doing big things on the UK charts and over nine million views of the video on YouTube, London-bred four-piece Rudimental is heading to Australia for a DJ tour. The run of dates is presented by Future Entertainment, and sees the crew hitting Ambar, Brown Alley, Chinese Laundry and Oh Hello. This will be Rudimental’s first trip down this way, and it’s unlikely to be their past.
Emerging from the fertile Hackney scene, songwriters and producers Piers Agget, Kesi Dryden, Amir Amor and DJ Locksmith recruited vocalist John Newman to bring his touch to Feel The Love. The hook-up worked wonders, and its crossover success has seen Rudimental booked for Outlook Festival, Creamfields and much more across the Northern summer. The outfit has also scored success with house-leaning record Spoon, which gets regular spins on Radio 1.
“We come from a London, UK, electronic background but we call it bass music because nowadays garage and drum & bass have morphed,” Amor told the Hackney Citizen newspaper this year. “And then we have soul music as the connecting factor between all of us. We all listen to soul and blues, from the 60s and 70s, so it’s bass music with soul.”
In an interview with The Fader, Aggett explained the Rudimental roles. “It’s quite an interesting dynamic because everyone’s got their own strengths and weaknesses. Amir is a guitarist, I’m a keyboard player, and Kesi is also a keyboard player, and he’s quite good on percussion and drums. And growing up here, we had old school garage, jungle, drum and bass, dubstep coming up, grime. With Rudimental you get a kind of mix of different genres and styles.”
