Big Day Out sideshows for Nicky Romero & Crystal Castles
Tue 18th Sep, 2012 Newsin
The 2013 Big Day Out juggernaut is set to feature a heavyweight dance line-up, and earlier today we announced the round of inthemix-presented sideshows for Italian rabble-rousers The Bloody Beetroots. The BDO sideshow action doesn’t stop there, though. Festival favourites Crystal Castles have a couple of Australian dates planned, stopping in Sydney and Melbourne to show off their new material. The duo has an album incoming this year, and it’ll apparently be bleak. “Every song we write feels bleak to me,” Ethan Kath told NME. “I don’t get it when people think it’s beautiful. I think it [bleakness] is the only emotion we do. We don’t want to do anything else.”
Then there’s fast-rising star Nicky Romero, whose club schedule is looking more generous. He’s kicking off at Marquee in Sydney, with six stops in total around the country. Romero’s 2012 has been stellar so far. He has proven to be dance music’s go-to-guy in recent years, hooking up in the studio with names like Avicii, David Guetta, Zedd, Fedde Le Grand and Hardwell. He’s also set to feature on the upcoming album from Calvin Harris, 18 Months, lending his touch to Iron. Expect polished big-room sets from the Dutchman.
The mainstage drawcards at this year’s Big Day Out are Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Killers, but as ever the national tour has plenty of electronic firepower. As well as the Beetroots, Crystal Castles and Romero, there’s U.S. house stadium-filler Kaskade, Foals, Pretty Lights, Morgan Page and a host of locals.
