DJs, producers, promoters, club owners and other industry players came together in Sydney on Tuesday 19 September for the 2012 inthemix awards ceremony, which this year featured both public- and industry-voted categories. No doubt you’ve already had a chance to look at the results, which saw Queensland duo The Stafford Brothers take the mantle of Australia’s Favourite DJ in the public-voted category for the second year running. The national top 5 saw a shake-up in 2012, with trance success story MaRLo ascending to the #2 spot and world-conquering electro-house gun Tommy Trash leaping from his 2011 position of #18 to #3. The top 5 is rounded out by a couple of popular Sydney identities, Nukewood and Timmy Trumpet.
The industry voted categories produced a host of worthy winners, with Julian Hamilton of The Presets jumping up to accept the honour of Best Live Act. His acceptance speech touched on dance music’s evolution from clubs and warehouses to some of the world’s biggest stages. It has been a similar rise for Tommy Trash from local club-hopper to international superstar, and his industry peers voted him the Most Influential Australian in Dance Music for 2012. Tommy accepted his award via video feed from his international travels, while Parachute Youth celebrated their win for breakout single Can’t Get Better Than This and Flight Facilities took out Best Music Video for the anime-inspired film clip for With You.
The Favourite Major Festival field was hotly-contested as usual, but the biggest shift-around came in the public-voted International DJ category. Usually the domain of Armin van Buuren and Tiesto, the top spot this year was seized by Swedish wunderkind Avicii, who also appeared on the big screens to accept his award. The celebrations continued well into the night, and inthemix’s photographers were there to capture all the action. Check out the photo galleries below.
