Every year, the Surry Hills Festival brings Sydneysiders together in a unique day of music, art and food for every taste. Come October 27, this year’s instalment promises to be bigger than ever. Headlining the festival are indie-electronic favourites Tijuana Cartel, who are one of this nation’s hardest working bands, and triple j darlings Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!. Staying true to the festival’s community spirit and history of supporting local acts, the main stage will also host a range of established and up-and-coming acts including Australian hip-hop MC The Tongue, indie talents Nantes, the crossover sound of True Vibenations, Afrobeat mainstays The Liberators, and the folk/punk musings of Mojo Juju.
For those interested in giving their dancing shoes a work out, the Garden Stage will host the party sounds of the inimitable Alison Wonderland, alongside DJ sets from Canyons, Slow Blow DJs, Sydney favourites Sosueme DJs and the boys from Purple Sneakers. Making big impressions overseas as well as at home, Softwar will keep the party going well and truly into the night.
Not stopping at those two stages though, the Chai Temple will host acoustic sets all day in a relaxing atmosphere, complete with sitting pillows and chai offerings. The day would not be complete without the art installations, roving performances, kids’ activities, an Eco living village, and a great selection of markets, food and drink. With proceeds all going towards fundraising for the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, there is little excuse to miss this one.
