Deadmau5’s big plans for his next album

We’ve had a good week now to wrap our ears around > album title goes here <, the sixth studio album from Canadian whiz Deadmau5. Our reviewer loved it, The Guardian in the UK not so much. “As with any album where the myth of the artist looms large, the best approach is just to block out all the extraneous garbage, put on the headphones, and absorb yourself solely in the music,” wrote inthemix’s e_j_montano. “I don’t think there’s enough of a consistent sonic identity on here to make > album title goes here < worthy of total classic status, but at the same time, there isn’t a single dull moment.”

Deadmau5 albums tend to be compilations of productions he’s made over the course of a year, with several of the tracks floating around the internet well before the LP’s out. That was certainly true of his previous release, 4×4=12, and > album title goes here < continues the theme. With a relentless tour schedule throughout 2011 and 2012, Deadmau5 slotted in production sessions around his globe-trotting itinerary. It has always been the way for him, but in an interview with MTV this week, the man behind the ‘mau5 Joel Zimmerman seemed intent on making an album in one cohesive whole. The defining Deadmau5 album, perhaps?

> album title goes here < is more of a poster book of a year and a half because I had a big fucking tour year,” he said on the red carpet of the iHeart Radio festival in Las Vegas. “The work I got done in the chaos. Hopefully next time, and I know I say this every fucking time, that I’ll have this year off touring and put together something that’s like [Pink Floyd’s] The Wall. Something that tells a story and is a big package.” Seeming to instantly register the chance of being taken out of context drawing a parallel with Pink Floyd, he added: “No, don’t even compare me to that please, but you know what I mean…”

The dream of a year off touring is unlikely to become a reality in the near future. While no dates have yet been announced, there’s sure to be a Deadmau5 live tour on the horizon…hopefully with an even more spectacular set-up than this.
