Big-room master Eric Prydz has had a stellar 2012 so far, releasing the comprehensive Eric Prydz presents Pryda collection and touring the United States for the first time in five years. “He’s one of the most intuitive artists ever in terms of knowing what works in the club,” wrote our reviewer, “with every subtle shift in melody, every drum roll, every build and every swell tweaked within an inch of its life to squeeze the most out of the dancefloor’s reaction.”
The Swede’s production streak is staying the course as well, with the release of a new single Every Day that’s every bit an Eric Prydz anthem. You can hear the radio rip from Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show below. Every Day is set for release on 15 October, with remixes from rising star Fehrplay and, intriguingly, drum & bass don Andy C.
The producer tends to attribute his more accessible work to his own name, while Pryda is reserved for another side of his musical personality. “I think Pryda has always been about that mix between melody and rhythm,” Prydz told inthemix this year. “In a lot of dance music the main event is the bassline or the kick-drum. When the bass or the fat drums come in, that’s like the main event. But a lot of Pryda tracks are different from that. Sure, the drums are there, but they’re there to show you the rhythm, and it’s all about the melody. When that lush chord comes in, that’s when you go, ‘Fuck me, that’s really nice!’ That’s what gives you the lift. I think that’s the thread through the whole catalogue.”
