When it comes to house trailblazers, they don’t come much more iconic than Masters At Work. ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a production team, and they’ll be taking the long haul down to Australia for an extremely rare New Year’s visit (in fact, it’ll be the first-ever time both guys have made it). Masters At Work is set to headline Welcome Summer on New Year’s Day in Melbourne. It’s an exclusive Melbourne show that’ll see the duo digging deep for a wide-ranging set of house history. As well as Welcome Summer, MAW is set to play Sydney on New Year’s Eve – stay tuned for the details.
“We are excited to be coming to Sydney for New Year’s Eve with the Housesolution crew and to Melbourne for Welcome Summer on New Year’s Day,” Louie Vega wrote overnight. “It will be amazing to catch up with our fans again at these great parties.”
In past years, Welcome Summer has hosted John Dahlback, Dimitri from Paris, Shapeshifters, DJ Spen and Martin Solveig. Presented by Alumbra, the event will be at Peninsula, Shed 14, home of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. The line-up of locals includes Kaz James, Ivan Gough, Simon Digby, James Belias and Steve Bleas, with more to be announced. Tickets are on-sale now from welcomesummer.com.
2012 has been a busy year for Masters At Work, with the Northern summer ending on a high at Ibiza’s Ushuaia Beach Hotel for Luciano’s residency. The DJs also helped Carl Cox celebrate his 50th birthday at his hallowed Space Ibiza night (“I have been trying to get them to play at Space with me for years,” said Cox). They’re still active as well in their hometown of New York, so expect to see them in killer form.
