Miami’s Ultra Music Festival expands to two weekends in 2013

Coming at the end of the Winter Music Conference in Miami each March, Ultra Music Festival has grown into a colossus. In 2012, the festival brought over 165,000 punters to downtown Miami across the weekend, with one of the most bombastic dance music line-ups you’ll find anywhere in the world. “America’s the land of the big,” is how Dirty South put it to inthemix. “They don’t really muck around there. It’s big or nothing.” The big-ness of that line-up included top-billing DJs Avicii, David Guetta, Tiesto and Armin van Buuren, along with icons like Kraftwerk and New Order and the ‘Ultra Mega-Structure’, home to Carl Cox & Friends and A State Of Trance 550 across the weekend.
If 2012 was a major step up for Ultra, 2013 is set to upsize again. Overnight, Ultra announced it will be staging two separate three-day festival weekends next year: March 15, 16 and 17 and March 22, 23 and 24, 2013. The announcement came in the form of a 14-minute video that relives the highlights from 2012, which you can watch below. The double-weekend idea was a successful move for Coachella this year, and Ultra’s ready to do the same for ‘EDM’.
“This is a unique concept from anything ever done before in our space, as it will be two weekends…two unique experiences,” says the festival’s co-founder Russell Faibisch. “There are a lot of incredible plans and surprises lined up for everyone attending our 15th Year Anniversary!” It’s fair to assume that each weekend will share headliners, but the “two unique experiences” line is sure to get fans speculating. Are you planning a pilgrimage?
