Flight Facilities tackle four decades of music for triple j

DJ, producer and seasoned triple j hostess Nina Las Vegas has been running her Saturday night House Party show every week for a good while now. So in the spirit of keeping things innovative, Nina’s brought Sydney duo Flight Facilities on board as October resident DJs. And the guys haven’t taken their Mix Up Exclusives duties lightly, opting to use their four hour-long mixes to highlight the best of four decades of music. In chronological order, they’re moving through the best of the 1970s to today one mix at a time.
“We’re pretty picky about which music we use, hence why we only do 1 or 2 tapes a year… so doing 4 mixes in one month had to be special,” Flight Facilities explained. “We decided to make things as hard as we could for ourselves while adding some novelty to the project. So here it is: 4 mixes, 4 decades of music, in the order in which it came out.”
Kicking off with 1972-82 in the first week and tackling 1982-92 last Saturday, the Future Classic lads are moving on to 1992-2002 this Saturday night before wrapping up with 2002-2012 next week. You can listen to the first two mixes on the triple j website and head to the Flight Facilities blog for a very in-depth run through of exactly how they managed to condense four decades of music into four hours – a feat they’ve been preparing for since April. Flight Facilities are part of the Harbourlife lineup, tickets for which are on sale through the Fuzzy website.
