Innervisions boss Dixon knows how to warm a dancefloor, and next February he’ll be back with an armful of house gems to share with us. The DJ was last seen here as the surprise guest at RA’s 10th birthday in Sydney, flying in for one night only. His set in the rammed Civic Underground was followed by a back-to-back session with Robag Wruhme in the early morning: all in all, not a bad night out. This time ‘round, the Finely Tuned-presented tour hits Sydney and Melbourne at to-be-confirmed venues.
Since releasing his brilliant mix-CD swansong, Live At Robert Johnson Volume 8, in 2011, Dixon has been spending most of his time in darkened clubs and on festival stages. Over the weekend, he pulled off the first-ever Boiler Room broadcast from a hotel room with Innervisions offsider Kristian from Ame. Taking place during Amsterdam Dance Event, Room 28 at the Lloyd Hotel was transformed into probably the city’s most intimate party. At the other end of the scale, in January Innervisions is set to present a showcase at BPM Festival in Mexico, with Dixon joined by Henrik Schwarz and more.
Dixon is very much a DJ first, but in recent interviews he’s singled out 2013 as a year for producing. “You should not have a master-plan behind it,” he recently told Music of the Future. “I know people who put themselves under pressure to fulfil expectations, and they are releasing stuff that should’ve stayed at home.” And this is how he describes his approach to DJing: “The good stuff is out there, but you really have to dig. If you want to find good stuff, you have to look left and right.”
Dixon tour dates:
22.02.2013 – Melbourne
23.02.2013 – Sydney
