Benga gets his own documentary

A week or so after Annie Mac opened up about her upcoming documentary on DJ culture, dubstep don Benga has announced that he too is bound for the small screen. The Big Apple Records pioneer has signed up for a six part series with Red Bull fittingly titled I Am Benga, charting the South Londoner’s life from his Croydon beginnings through to his increasingly above-ground career.
So what can we expect to see in the doco? From the looks of the trailer, there’ll be insight into life on the road, work on his new BBC 1 Radio show with partner-in-bass Skream and catch-ups with old pal Example. “I’m incredibly excited about the series,” the man himself buzzed. “I can’t wait to show everyone the amazing things I’ve been part of!” Chances are the series will also give us a look into studio time for Benga’s new solo album Chapter II, his third following 2006 debut Newstep and 2008 dubstep gem Diary of an Afro Warrior. The series kicks off on November 13, but you can watch the trailer below now.
In other dubstep-trailblazer news, Skream has been busy prepping a new EP. The seventh edition in the long-running Skreamizm series of EPs is officially on its way, with Skream tweeting the tracklist today. There’s no official release date yet, but there’s plenty to look forward to: included on the EP is Skream’s second collaboration with Kelis, which he described as “10 times better than [their first song together] Distance ”. Sounds good.
