Ultra Music Festival to be Swedish House Mafia's final stop

As you’d expect, Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour is shaping up to be a massive farewell. The Swedes’ first tour announcement revealed they’ll be taking in dates everywhere from India to South Africa, as well as plenty of stops in the usual European and North American hangs. Last week, they announced they’re not leaving us out either, heading out for one last Australian show at the Sydney Showground in February. But they’re not stopping there. Today, the trio revealed the final stop on their world tour – and the honours have gone to Miami’s Ultra Music Festival.
Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello will cap their joint career off with not one but two sets at Miami’s famous UMF. Following the news that Ultra is expanding to two weekends for 2013, the Swedes have announced that they’ll perform at both weekends of the festival: kicking things off with a set on the opening night of Friday, March 15 and closing the festival the following week on Sunday, March 24. It’s going back to where the SHM all began, as Ultra was where the dance titans made their North American debut in 2010. “Ultra was the first place we really built a show for the mainstage,” SHM said in a statement. “It just felt right that we finished where so much was started and we’re honoured to open and close the festival.”
However, a couple of years ago the Swedish House Mafia bidding farewell at Ultra might not have seemed so likely. In 2011, the Swedes skipped UMF in favour of hosting their own Masquerade Motel Miami bash in direct competition with Ultra after Miami’s Winter Music Conference dates were moved, much to the ire of Angello and co. Still, both parties are letting bygones be bygones with good reason – with UMF bringing no less than 165,000 punters to town in 2012, Swedish House Mafia couldn’t have picked a bigger way to go out.
