With the weather holding up its end of the bargain and that massive lineup in tow, Stereosonic kicked off its 2012 tour in Sydney and Perth over the weekend. Across the board, things went off without a hitch: from the mainstage where the headliners – Tiesto, Avicii, Calvin Harris and co – did their bit to rev the crowd through to the niche stages, the artists were in fine form, punters was in high spirits and dance music’s photographer-of-choice Rukes was there to catch it all alongside a team of Australia’s leading shooters.
As for the highlights of the day? It all depends on your stage-of-choice. The legendary Carl Cox led his Revolution Arena with the likes of Loco Dice, Adam Beyer and Nina Kraviz there to back him up. Flux Pavilion, Bassnectar and Datsik did it for the bass-heads, while Porter Robinson and Major Lazer proved Sonic standouts. Markus Schulz did a full 90-minutes for the trance acolytes and Frenchies Brodinski, Gesaffelstein and Mr Oizo wowed crowds at the Hard Arena.
Of course, the lineup still has a huge week ahead of them: before they do Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide Stereo this weekend, there’s the inaugural edition of Electronic Music Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday and a heap of sideshows around the country. But before that all gets underway, check out all the shots from Perth below.
