On the first weekend of summer, the Stereosonic juggernaut managed to coordinate three festivals, a bunch of after-parties and a huge cast of dance music stars to finish the 2012 tour. Melbourne and Adelaide kicked things off on Saturday, before the party rolled on to Brisbane for a scorching finish. The Stereo stage line-up of Avicii, Laidback Luke, Martin Solveig, Calvin Harris and Tiesto fired off the anthems in each city, accompanied by CO2 cannons, pyrotechnics, vast LED screens and – in Avicii’s case – branded balls bouncing out across the crowd. Then there was the second mainstage, Sonic, where the sound of the day jumped from Dash Berlin’s polished trance to the big-room house of Chuckie to the full-throttle Porter Robinson throw-down.
One of the standout stars of the second weekend was German dynamo Zedd, whose sets on the Hard L.A. stage made for a raucous 60 minutes. He was in good company, too, thanks to the French dream team of Brodinski and Gesaffelstein, Diplo, Mr Oizo and Dillon Francis (you can relive the Hard L.A. experience in the video inthemix made at the Sydney Stereosonic). Diplo called this tour “his best to date”, and the Major Lazer crew certainly made an impression with its no-holds-barred party sets.
Meanwhile, the Carl Cox Revolution stage in Brisbane and Melbourne had techno devotees locked in from start to finish, courtesy of Loco Dice, Adam Beyer, Nina Kraviz, Joris Voorn and the main man himself. Beyer and Dice also went back-to-back at the Brown Alley after-party in Melbourne, before making it to Brisbane on not a lot of sleep. Then there was the BASS stage, with enormous lettering to match, and Markus Schulz taking the central trance role in the Kabuki arena. All in all, it was an epic weekend, and the official photos have arrived first on inthemix. Get into them below.
