When Steresonic rolled into town with Tiesto, Avicii, Calvin Harris and the rest in tow, it also brought a cool new initiative along with it. The SS Strongbow joined the Stereo tour for 2012, docking in Sydney to give punters a place to soak up the festival atmosphere and enjoy an ice cold Strongbow at the same time.
At a mega 37 feet tall, the SS Strongbow was hard to miss. But to really capture the energy of the boat, inthemix went to work filming the bar for the day. It was certainly a sight worth immortalising: built over 70 years ago, the wooden boat was once fully operational and sailed around the country. Now, it’s been transformed into festival centrepiece with a custom built deck and fully operational bar.
In Sydney, the Strongbow boat looked out to the Sonic stage, which featured an all-star cast. Bingo Players, Dash Berlin and Sander van Doorn set the mood in the afternoon, before Chuckie and Porter Robinson claimed the prime sundown slots. It all finished up with the raucous madness of the Major Lazer live show, complete with Diplo riding across the crowd in an inflatable ball.
Check out the video below for some of the highlights of the day and keep an eye out for the SS Strongbow as the big string of summer festivals kick off. The boat is set to dock at 60 venues around the country this summer, including Summadayze and Future Music Festival.
