Sasha touring Australia in January 2013

Enduring electronic music icon Sasha is always greeted by a hero’s welcome in Australia, and he’s set for a return this summer. 2012 has been another year of highlights for the DJ: touring the world with his Never Say Never brand, captaining the Last Night On Earth label, working on the much-anticipated Involver3 and constantly fine-tuning those legendary sets. Now we know Australia’s on his itinerary, with Sasha playing extended sets in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne around the Australia Day weekend. Tickets are on-sale now; check out the Future Entertainment website.
In a revealing interview with Mixmag this year, Sasha spoke about his concerted efforts to avoid being a ‘heritage DJ’. Invited by Renaissance to play its 20th anniversary party, he agreed only on the condition that he wouldn’t do a throwback set (apparently he snuck in a couple of classics after all, though). “I couldn’t bring myself to do that. I was adamant that I would only do the gig if there was a relevant roster. Guy Gerber, Mathew Jonson and Jozif played. It was a night of cool music. The whole classics thing is one step away from becoming a karaoke DJ. That scares me to death, to be honest.”
Later, he reflected on how difficult it is to stay ahead of the game in 2012, which is why the exclusive re-edits he makes for his sets are essential. “You’re under a lot of pressure to deliver a new set every time,” he told Mixmag. “Especially because people post sets online. It’s shocking. I’ll play a set with loads of exclusive music and the next day someone’s posted the tracklisting online and they’ve got ninety per cent of it right. How the fuck do they know? Have they got my phone bugged?” It’s testament to the man’s talents, then, that he’s always managed to stay one step ahead.
Tour dates:
Friday 25 Jan – Villa, Perth
Saturday 26 Jan – The Metro, Sydney
Sunday 27 Jan – Chasers, Melbourne
