It’s only taken two years for Boiler Room to rack up an audience numbering in the hundreds of thousands. After all, get guys like Dixon and Ame or Skream and Disclosure to go back-to-back in a hotel room while you stream the whole thing live and you’re bound to pique a bit of interest. In warehouses, secret locations and intimate venues around the UK and Europe, Boiler Room’s broadcast invite-only DJ sets (and the odd live performance) from names like Caribou, Jamie xx, James Blake and Jonti since 2010.
But Boiler Room being a Europe-based site, Southern Hemisphere audiences have never really had the chance to be one of the punters right there, throwing pillow fight fluff in Skream’s face while he tries to mix – until now. Boiler Room has announced that they’re coming to Australia for the first time at the beginning of the New Year, thanks to Melbourne boutique festival Sugar Mountain, Sydney underground institution Goodgod and Good Company. Boiler Room will be stopping over for a series of Australian gigs in January, hitting secret venues in Perth, Goodgod in Sydney, plus Sugar Mountain and The Bottom End in Melbourne.
There’s no word yet on who they’ve recruited for the sets – but given their UK/Europe December lineup boasts Kerri Chandler, Laurent Garnier and Jamie xx among others, high-calibre names seem given. But to get speculative, look no further than the Sugar Mountain lineup for clues: Jonti, Peanut Butter Wolf, Action Bronson and HTRK could all work. Whoever they’ve got on board, though, Boiler Room coming to Australia is very, very good news.
Boiler Room Australian dates:
Saturday 12 January – secret venue (details to be announced), Perth
Sunday 13 January – secret venue (details to be announced), Perth
Thursday 17 January – Good God Small Club, Sydney
Saturday 19 January – Sugar Mountain Festival at The Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Sunday 27 January – The Bottom End, Melbourne
