UPDATE: Rob Da Bank has clarified his comments, stating that he has “no idea” whether Daft Punk will actually tour or not in 2013. See the full tweet below.
Remember those rumours that Daft Punk would be headlining Coachella this year? Well, it turns out – surprise, surprise – they’re not true. In fact, the elusive Frenchmen apparently aren’t playing anywhere over the coming twelve months. Speaking to eFestivals (and picked up by NME), Bestival organiser Rob Da Bank has stated that the duo won’t be appearing live at all in 2013.
“There’s all kinds of crazy rumours flying about at the moment about Daft Punk at Coachella, and The Rolling Stones playing Glastonbury,” the Isle of Wright festival head explained, debunking Songkick listings that placed the iconic pair on the Coachella bill last month. “We got told months ago that Daft Punk were definitely not touring next year, but it keeps the rumour mill going.” Bummer.
But you can’t blame us for hoping the Coachella Songkick listing might have been true. After all, the timing is certainly right for a live return: there’s been endless talk of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s new album being poised to drop for nigh on a year now, with the latest (speculative) information pointing to a March 2013 release. Plus, they’re definitely due a tour. Daft Punk haven’t toured properly since 2007, the same year they made their last Australian visit with the legendary Nevereverland event at the Sydney Showground. But even with a Coachella visit off the cards, no doubt that rumour mill will keep on churning. We’ve just got to keep the hope alive that eventually, one of the reports turns out to be true.
On the daft punk thing-I’m not their manager, agent or mate so I have no idea if they’ll tour in 2013 …or not! They may do 300 festivals!
